Considering getting a D90 DSLR over the Canon EOS 40/50D mainly because of the D-Movie mode.
Found out this kit on Ebay, though wondered what people think of it:

That auction has ended.
But, my advice to you is simple and direct. Only buy from a reputable dealer. I repeat, only buy from a reputable dealer. Want a D90 kit? Suck it up and buy from B&H other other comparable reputable dealer. Unless of course you want to wind up like one of those suckers on the "where should I buy my camera" forum crying like a little baby after getting ripped-off.

Most of the stuff in there is junk that you don't need. B&H and Buydig.com are excellent places to buy gear.

i don't see how the ebay merchant is not a reputable dealer. he has almost 5k transactions with 100% feedback.

I love ebay for second hand things, for instance.. car parts.
Last time I bought a 700$ new guitar from a 100% positive feedback seller, I ended up being the one giving him the first Negative. Never said it was not in stock, waited for 1 week.. got tired of it, retracted my money.. which took another week. damned either way.
Not saying it'll happen to you..
just a thought.
I will be getting my first DSLR, saw some good prices on Ebay but i'll be purchasing from butterfly photo instead.
During the holidays, it's crazy.
I'm anal when it comes to arrival times, especially knowing they have my hard earned money.
my 2 pennies.
i don't see how the ebay merchant is not a reputable dealer. he has almost 5k transactions with 100% feedback.Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that selling a fake Sandisk card and a POS card reader as a "kit" is reputable! Sorry, my bad!!! :D:rolleyes::D
Also, I've got an idea...spend a grand at that ebay merchant and then try to return the item because you simply don't like it (as you can do at B&H) and let us know how it goes! Thanks!
Bottom line: I guess people have a right to be as dumb or SLUGY as they like. Just don't mind me for laughing!
I think JTL's posts are right on the money
its alot safer to buy from B&H

I figured the seller had 100% rating, and these days with Microsoft live cashback, you can get decent $ back. But I do agree as well, I'll just have to buy them one piece at a time.

You're better off buying your kit one by one as you get what you know is good, not what some ebay seller has gotten for cheap and is trying to sell off. All those accessories in that auction are very cheap and you'll especially regret getting stuck with the cheap tripod, telephoto lens, flashes and non nikon charger. Ebay is good for buying second hand equipment for cheap when you can find it, but not these packages.
Ah the fabulous Nikon 70-300G lens!
http://www.getitdigital.com/display/images/large/00206.jpg
I was wondering which sucker had ended up with those. The problem with them is that they are slow focussing, have bad CA, are too light to be a paperweight and not heavy enough to be a fishing sinker.
Overall an ebay "bargain kit" is the ideal final resting place for them along with the other rubbish (other than the D90 itself) that that seller was offering.
Thanks for posting the link. I needed a smile today.

Bidding closed with not only no winner, but no bidders either with the starting bid of $1499. Most of that is trash - most notably the flash. The only 2 decent components are the camera with the kit lens and the 50mm prime which don't know if you would use as it is included within the zoom range. As noted, the 70-300G is nothing to brag about. It is NOT the VR version that sells for $549, but a $120 lens at B&H.
Pricing those components at B&H it is $1140 + 110 + 120 = $1370 which gives you a $130 buffer for all the other crap. Of course, you can ccustom delete/add item and get what you want which is not possible on the ebay auction. It is little wonder that they had no bidders.

what has the merchant selling got to do with not being reputable?
every item he is selling is broken down as to what it is.
he's not sugar coating anything. you know exactly what you are getting.
if stupid people think they are getting something more valuable than what is listed, then all they have to blame is their stupidity.
if he calls his cards Sandisk, then i will call his reputation into question, but otherwise what you see is what you get.

If 90% of it is junk you'll still be buying them one piece at a time. I'm not saying ebay doesn't have it's place. It just wouldn't be my first choice on a new dslr purchase. At any rate congrats and enjoy new camera. :)

if the ebay deals saves u a couple of hundreds then i don't think it's worth it.
personally, i wouldn't spend thousands (for a single item) on ebay...

What about the honest old guy with a few bucks who hears ebay is a good place to get a good deal. Who isn't web savy enough to know there are places to ward off good people from following bad instincts... Not sugar coating. lol There's an expectation of usability. Doesn't change the fact that he's putting that stuff out there in order to dupe someone. Let's face it if he was really all that honest he would include in fine print no one in their right mind would by this crap. Like George Hull said "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute". :D Not on my watch! :p
And it's no different from somebody buying from one of those bait and switch NY camera dealers or for that matter going in to a mass market retailer and being told that more mega pixels is better and you need a tripod for this credit card P&S camera and you should always have an extra battery or two (our generic house brand with massive margin) and of course a travel battery charger (again house brand with massive margin), oh and 20GB worth of memory cards (never heard of this brand? We've sold them for at least the last month with no problems at all) and of course we all know cameras are fragile so you will want the 3 year unable to make a claim for any reason extended warranty.
It's called selling, it's been going on since well before the Internet, in fact well before cameras or for that matter well before the Bible was thought of. There is always a buyer somewhere.

the fact of the matter is that you know exactly what you are getting in that auction.
stupid is as stupid does.
if you're gonna buy a D90 and know not anything about DSLRs, then you deserve what you bid for.
i've walked into Henry's camera here and seen and heard the so called camera pro's push garbage to the uneducated that almost makes me want to say something but in the end of the day, he has to make a living too.
if you are gonna save a significant amount of money buying something online, then go for it especially if you know you want the D90 for sure.
or course demo it in the store first before you buy it online.
i rather buy something online and save a few bucks any day if i know exactly what i'm getting. but i have also purchased locally as well just because there are some things i want in my hands immediately and not wait to receive.
if that seller was shady in anyway he would have received some kind of negative feedback by now.
and the fact he did not sell has nothing to do with the quality of the lenses or accessories he is selling - this is December and North Americans are broke by this time of the year - there is a buyer for every type of product out there.
i have walked in to a few ebay stores locally and they all say that November and December are the worst months for any kind of expensive items.

just as a note, I did not purchase from that person, actually I have been seeing some nice Nikon/Canon kits @ Costco (is Costco good enough for you guys ?! :) ), though I have to say there are more and more big stores selling on Ebay (J&R, buy.com, etc)

Costco is good.
Just don't let people sell you on accessories you "must" have before doing the research here or elsewhere on the web. You may come to find out you were taken.

Big fan of Costco and Sams as they are within a couple of miles from me. At Costco can even get postage stamps cheaper than at the US Post Office! Drooling over the 46" Panasonic 1080p plasma for right at $100. Obviously the selection is limited for cameras and everything else- but they won't talk you into dittly squat. The D90 prepackaged kit looked good - but the prepackaged kit was the only choice - no variation. One thing I did notice when looking at the D60 was a footnote: "sales tax on prediscounted amount." The problem is that the D60 2 lens/kit/case/DVD was the same as Nikon's current nationwide special and they were priced the same.
Also get generic drug Rx filled at Sams for $10/ 3mo supply. Do you know how dangerous it is to walk around that store for 20 minutes while waiting for the script to be filled! Costco tends to have the better camera selection though - but both are limited.

But this is not about you and it never has been. :p Let's say we have a dad who wants to buy his son the camera he's been nagging him about for the last six months. Now dad could care less about camera equipment... all he knows is his son wants a D90. Dad reads somewhere this guy has a great rating and he knows exactly what he's getting, because his ad says so. That's good enough for dad. Dad gives the kid his present he sees it's a D90 :D then he pulls out the too slow memory 2 X 8 GB Secure Digital (SD) High Speed Memory Card (Sandisk look alike) Mini Travel Tripod that's only rated for a 6oz :o next Tele/Wide Angle Autofocus Lens that don't auto focus :( next Power Auto Digital Flash Clip-On and Slave GN# 10  next Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G AF Zoom - Nikkor Lens  c'mon dad even Nikkon knows that lens is a pos man wtf you listened to Elisha82 didn't you, frak!!! Didn't you read anybody elses posts :confused::confused:

It's obvious, but I didn't think they's pull a copy of The Planet of the Apes. But they did, so it was still surprising. Does that make sense?
The best part is that it hasn't ended. We get to see how they react and what steps are taken next. In the end I think there will be some huge battle with pretty much no one left. Cylon or Human. Maybe just the human/cylon babies (I think they have another one coming - see the clues on the sci-fi site) will be left and the last thing will be to get them to a habitable planet. Starting the whole process over. Who knows, but I'll watch it till then end.
