Can somebody give me some pointers on how best to take landscape pictures with my A95 (other than using a tripod)?

You are going to have to give us a bit more information. Why were your Canon A-95 Landscape photos less than great?

Generally speaking, most pictorials are done as a wide angle shot. Are you using the A-95 accessory lens?

I am sure we can solve this for you. We will just need a bit more information.

Are you talking about just landscape shots or stitched shots?

No, no... single shots of landscapes. :)

There's no specific problem, I was just interested in any pointers or tips that could be offered.

If I had any particular issue, perhaps the sharpness or general clarity of the pictures I'm taking could be improved.

Would someone be able to tell me about the lens available for the A95?

Try using AV mode with aperture value between f/3.5 - f/5. This seems to be the sweet spot for this lens. Lower will get you more soft corners and CA. Going higher toward F8 will soften the whole picture very slightly. Also you should use single AF as it is more predictable. If you shoot wide angle in daylight you should be fine without tripod. BTW I just started to shoot panoramas and their are really fun.

Moving along, can somebody tell me about the lenses available for the A95? (uses, pros, cons, etc.)

A95 lense is enough for taking landscape picture.

The landscape mode in camera tries to use high aperture and use low shutter speed. In my Canon G6 manual, it recommend to use tripod.

To take landscape pictures, I agree with DiJ. F4.0 is sweet spot for many digital cameras. You should not have any problem with Av mode, F4.0, and taking pictures with wide angle in daylight without tripod.

BTW, if you are interesting in panoramas (I just started also), you can visit my home page at http://pairojvej.fotopic.net

Generally, if you use an 'auto-landscape' mode of shooting in a camera, it will try to aim for a large aperture and slow shutter speed.

It depends on what type of picture you're taking. Sunsets? Cityscapes? Night lights? I do tend to agree with DiJ about the settings to use though.
