Are you gonna pick one up Rooz? I saw those couple on ECS and have been really thinking about it. But am not sure since I think I'd benefit from a body upgrade. Plus I've bought the 105VR and 70-300VR recently so need to choose wisely. I let a 35mm f/2 go on ebay last night for cheap. I guess I'm hoping they bring a AF-S version out soon. I'll let you know if i decide to get the 17-55
I might be selling mine and the D200, if I get the D3 soon.

There's always someone else watching too
My wife dragged me away kicking and screaming before I gave in to temptation

I see you were watching too. so you know it went for $316, and I was willing to pay about $340 but I thought why not just wait and see. For $100 more I can buy new from the shop. I don't know whether it's wishful thinking or real hope that there will be a 35 AF-S. I guess we'll see.
the lens is a bit short for me. the 24-70 is far more likely to be my range of use. still, its a pretty good deal considering how good it is.

I know what you mean. I've been considering the 17-55 or the older 28-70 and know I would prefer the length of 70mm over 55mm but the convenience factor of having 17mm at the wide end rather than having to change to an ultra-wide lens for standard 17mm shots is in the back of my mind.
yepp, which is why i think i'll end up getting a 16-85 for my standard "muck around" zoom. still...at that price, i have been seriously considering it anyway.

Funny we're all thinking the same way.
I wanted a 24-70 but knew I'd also have to buy the Tokina 12-24 so I could still do landscapes. So I went the cheap route instead but I think I've still got pretty good IQ with my 2 lens lineup + macro.
I'm sure I'll feel differently in a year. Damn NAS.

Did you finally come around on this Rooz? I thought I was against the entire Nikon forum when i said the 16-85/VR was one of my top recommendations for an upgrade / walkaround zoom. Almost everyone said the lens was a terrible value and wondered why anyone would get a slow consumer zoom that offered 2 measly mm extra on the wide end and only went to 85 mm compared to an 18-200, which would have been a much better value.
no, i;ve always ben a fan of the 16-85, just not the price.

The price really hurts. If it didn't get such good reviews...
I can't believe I got no change from selling an 18-200 to buy a 16-85!
