I got a dust speck in the viewfinder of my brand-spanking new D200 while changing lenses, and it distracted me so much I decided I had to clean the focusing screen... Well I got the speck out, but also managed to scratch the focusing screen while I was at it.

Does anyone know where can I find a replacement focusing screen for my D200?

I am going to check with B&H and Adorama tomorrow and see if they carry it, but any other suggestions would be a great help!!

The D200 focusing screen is not an interchangeable item like on some cameras. This means it is probably a Nikon maintenance issue to fix, or a warranty breaker if you do it yourself. I'm just guessing, of course, but that's what I believe.

Nikon sells the D200 focusing screen! I ordered 3 of them, just in case.

lol! Hey I don't know how long they'll keep supporting the D200 so better safe than sorry. Besides if a soft non-abrasive pecpad can scratch that piece of glass then in all likelihood it will happen again.

Thing is a certain camera repair place here in NYC quoted me $150 to replace the part and said they have to keep my camera for at least to weeks to do it.

A Nikon rep called me back this morning to tell me the part costs 90 cents, yes, 90 cents a piece!! He wanted to know if I wanted to add any more, so I told him ship me 10 in that case. And he told me where to take the camera to have the screen replaced on the spot.

ps. how do you have a brand-spanking new D200? the camera came out almost 3 years ago. :D

Nikon got it right. The other place didn't. I just bought my D200 on Friday.
