My Grandson, Nicholas, visited Sunday. He's always fascinated by my 20D.
Still learning the 580 EX II. First two with the EF85 f1.8 - ISO200 1/60 @ f4. Third with my EF24-70 f2.8L - ISO200 1/60 @ f2.8. Fill flash on all 3.

First and second one seem to be slightly underexposed and the second one also has that annoying shadow...the third one is perfect....
Love your grandsons expression in the second one though....
Play around in flash manual mode.....it has made me ignore E-TTL (auto mode) for a month now...
I'd suggest get some stronger light sources other than your flash, I'm thinking loungeroom with an open window
natural light + depth of field always a winner
he's too young to know any better Dennis. whats your excuse ? too old to change ? :D
btw: all you need to do is bump the iso up and drop your shutter speed a tad and you'll be golden mate.
Nice shots of a very handsome nephew, Dennis!
Played around with the 2nd shot for 1min in PS and this is what I got..
really brings out his beautiful eyes!

Thanks faisal. Yeah, they may be just slightly under when I converted from RAW. Agree on the shadow on #2. I may not have bounced the flash on that one. I shoot my strobes in manual, it's actually kinda nice using the E-TTL. Still playing with the 580 tho.

Stronger light? How about 4 White Lightning Ultra600's. :D I'm a natural light guy, unless in the studio. Mainly got the 580 EX II to chase my grandson.

:D:rolleyes: The good thing is that he listens well to his Papaw!:p Too old to change? Probably, only been shooting Canon for 30 years or so. Although, the D300 is pretty nice.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try next time.

Thanks Viky, but he's actually my grandson ;). Nice touch on your edit. I really didn't do too much in PS on these. Processed in ACR was about it. PS only a little USM, resize, and save for web.
