Hi Guys, I know this might not be the appropriate thread where this post need to go, but I have so many invaluable responses coming from you guys that I decided to post my question here.

I am looking for a compact camera, which can take great pictures in low light and indoors. I have a canon SD630, which is good outdoors but not at all great with indoor pictures. Also, I don't want to be spending too much on it, so keep that in mind. I look forward for your recommendations.

You posted this in the Nikon SLR forum. Are you looking for an SLR?

Bottom line, there is no compact camera that's really great at low light photography. There used to be some good ones, especially the Fuji F30/31, but since then things have gone downhill.

True, too many pixels and not enough surface area.

I had high hopes for the Sigma DP1, but it only goes to 800, and it's not good there, despite being a large sensor. That camera just doesn't make any sense. Why bother to build a large sensor camera if the noise performance is going to be as poor as a small sensor compact?

Perhaps the new Olympus Micro 4/3 will be the ticket. The Panasonic version is a bit on the large side, but the Oly is designed to be more compact. With a selection of pancake lenses, it could work out OK, and still take larger lenses when you don't need to keep it compact.
