I just got the Lumix TZ5 less than a week ago. And on day 1 I noticed a little red dot in the screen. It is always there so its def. a pixel problem on the LCD screen. Its there when viewing pictures and taking them but does not show up when I load them onto the computer.

Is this a bad thing? I have 14 days to return it. Should I take it back or is it just something that I could face in another camera also. I read somewhere that this is common for cameras made with leica? I dont know how that would effect the LCD though. Will it lead to more red pixels in the future?

Basically I want to know if I should take it back or if its no big deal...

While I don't think it'll be a huge problem, if it is bothering you could always return the camera and get a replacement. It is a manufacturer's defect, after all, and returns shouldn't be a problem.
If you want to get the same camera, just ask to open and turn it on first.

It's no big deal really just an annoyance but if it was me I'd take it back & get a replacement. After all you just bought a new camera, if they'd given you a discount because of it then OK but I'd expect a new camera to be defect free.

All LCD screens are prone to bad pixels or subpixels and according to certain ISO norms devices that have bad pixels are not classified as "defective" unless these pixels don't exceed certain numbers (usually 3-4 for small screens, 6-7 or more for LCD monitors).

Stuck pixel. Never seen it on smaller devices, but its always possible.

I saw them on several digital cameras (Nikon D60), cellphones (SE K770i) and mp3 players.

well I brought it in for exchange. Checked it for bad pixels before I left the store. This one seems to be bad pixel free. =)

Oh and I went to a concert last night.... and it actually took decent low light pictures. I was very excited because my nikon concert pictures always came out black. YAY! I think I am pretty satisfied with the purchase so far. Now I just have to print some pictures off it.

And, of course, post some shots here! :D
