Pentax - new lenses backward compatible?

Is there a way to know which lenses are compatible with which cameras, within the Pentax K (manual KX body) to * (digital "KXA" body) range?

Specifically, would the 18-35mm zoom sold as compatible with the new *ist also work as a manual lens on the KX body?

Silly, but I'm caught between platforms and have to replace some gear that was stolen and need to figure out what is worth replacing.
