Anyone have any recommendations for a data recovery tool? A fellow I work with went to China and apparently had some problems with his first XD card. He's not a camera guru, but the story I get is that they took some photos and when they went to review them received a message that there were no files.

They removed the card and started to use another one. I suggested that the files may be recoverable and I'd do some research. I did confirm that he turned off the camera before removing the card.

I found some software packages that claim to do the job, but thought I'd check here first.

So here's what I've looked at so far:

CardRecovery
F-Recovery for SD
eIMAGE Recovery

Any warnings or recommendations?

Great tool, and free.

Thanks David!

I downloaded and installed the software and was able to recover files from a CF card that had been formatted several times. Found 118 files, some of which were 3 years old.

Tomorrow the China pictures! :D

Well, we were unable to recover the photos from the SD card. The user is not sure what happened, but none of the three recovery programs worked.

Tried the one David linked to, as well as a program called "bad data", then one called "onTrack". No luck with any. I guess sometimes you eat the dog, and other times the dog eats you! :D
