get the 70-200mm f/4L IS or f/2.8 to give you good coverage.... those are very versatile lenses.

saleh...did you not originally start with a d40, then go to a 40d ? i kinda get the feeling we will see another thread from you in a few months going to a 5dMkII. imho, that would have been a much better choice. if you can change your mind about the 5d and go str8 to a MkII i would seriously gie that alot of thought. the improvements are significant and its a pretty reasonable price for such a kick ass body.

Rooz u are right,

i dont think i will upgrade to mark II the price is too much 5D at this time it is ok for me i belive mark II work with EF & EF-S and more megapixles.

rooz after seeing how sharping 5D vs D3 VS D300 :) i have to upgrade to new camera buy not this time :)

rooz sell all ur gears and get canon for more sharping :)

sorry brother i havent checked the first page of this thread :) i add it to my widh list :) adam burton i sent him email to ask him which lens to get 16-35 2.8 ?

he said ( would recommend the Canon 17-40mm for landscapes. A great quality
wide angle lens, and not too expensive either.)

What are you shooting? Or what do you like shooting?

The 24-70 f/2.8L USM is an amazing lens. On a full frame it should cover all your daily shooting and give you a bit of reach. If you get the 70-200mm f/2.8L make sure you get the IS version, image stabilization for a telephoto lens is almost a necessity. If you're doing landscapes or architecture you should get the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens, if you can afford all three you're pretty much covered for 95% of the shots you might want to do.

Saleh,

Actually the 5D will only accept EF lenses. The 50D can accept both. Full framed Canon bodies will not fit the EF-S line of lenses but the cropped framed bodies can accept both.

Why not look at getting the 50D, it's half the price of the 5DMkII but it has the new image processor DIGiC4, higher ISO than the 40D and a much, much, much better LCD.

I'm curious as to why you want to go full frame at this point?

And whatever you get, go with the 17-40 rather than the 16-35 II - edges on the 16-35 are too yucky (even on a crop cam) to justify the higher price IMO.

my weekly shots landscapes , sunset also some times i need 70-200mm F/2.8 IS for actions , birds sunsets & deserts shots i 16-35mm its a pretty lens and sharp but it would be only for landscapes comparing the price to 17-40 too much expensive i can get later not know before i shot with 40D and Canon 10-22 it wasnt sharp :( sigma 10-20 was much better

50D it pretty but should be used for landscapes its for sports and action it is fasts when i shot with my 40D and checked friend 5D much differents with canon fish eye we are all trying to get the widest lens for land scapes full frame will help to get more details on picture after times comparing on the net i found 5D pretty for night shot u cannot believe how sharp the picture i know it is 3.5fps it is enough for my use upgrading to full frame it was the targets to improve the pictures i think it is the time for full frame

how about Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye ?

Saleh
10-22-2008, 03:26 PM
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom OR getting 15 fisheye and 17-40 <=== this is a high quality and sharp lens almost $660

sharpening ? lol thats more to do with default settings than anything else.

bro i think you have over-analysed this to death by reading, (or misreading), some pixel peeping reviews and have missed some pretty important features for some pretty irrelevant ones.

why not rent a 5d for a bit to make sure you're happy with it ?

I think I'd go with the 24-70 f/2.8L. I guess it depends if you want the 2.8 or the IS. I'm really looking forward to when they have the 24-70 with IS. :D

I like prime, so my "cheap" prime suggestion is:
35/2 - 85/1.8 - 135L/2 - 200L/2.8
or the even cheaper
50/1.4 - 100/2 - 200/2.8
If you like more wide prime you can put in the 28/1.8

Saleh, would you recommendthe sigma 10-20? I'm looking for a wide-angle lens and I'm debating between the EF 17-40 f/4L USM or something else. I guess since you said the EF 10-222 isn't sharp I'm going to stay away from it. I know on my 50D the 17mm isn't going to be exactly ultra-wide angle, but it should give me quite a bit more coverage on my sensor. Do you have any samples of shots from your Sigma 10-20?

Ditto, the 10-22 is an excellent lens. Many of the EF-S lenses are incredible lenses, including the 60mm macro, 17-55 f/2.8 IS as well as the 10-22.
If your looking to save a few bucks, then I would go with the Tokina 12-24.

jedinite, i would ignore both of these clowns for their deceptive posts. neither of the shots they posted is evidence that the 10-22 is much chop at all really cos they could both take kick ass landscapes with a polaroid camera.

Well I'm not DThompson or MichaelB so does my contribution suggest anything about the Sigma 10-20:p

I hope you don't think I was trying to suggest that I did in fact have great talent. It was just the opposite I was suggesting. I meant that I was happy with this shot in spite of the fact that I am not up to par with others in this forum such as Michael and DThompson. Sorry if my previous post sounded egotistical.
