ok so i thought i'd do my own high ISO test on my 40d. i know this has been done but i like doing things my way.
Pictures shot with highlight tone priority disabled and high ISO noise reduction off. Mirror lockup was on and a shutter release cable was used. Camera stabilized by sitting on a table. 17-55mm @ 55mm and f/2.8, 1/3s for the ISO 800 shot, 1/6s for the 1600, and 1/13s for the 3200
All pictures shot in raw, all converted to jpeg through Lightroom 2.0 with Lightroom defaults on all settings...including sharpness and noise reduction. All cropped to 100% in photoshop with no sharpening and saved as JPEG at quality 12.
the second batch are full originals resized in photoshop cs3 with bicubic sharper and sharpened with smart sharpen filter at .7 pixels and 40%. i like real world samples, not unprocessed stuff. i'd rather show what it WILL look like. Saved at quality 9.
overall extremely happy with the noise levels of the camera. i thought my 30d was good, this seems to be a lot better. i guess i'll have to compare the two to be sure, maybe i'll do that this weekend. i was also impressed with the cameras ISO accuracy. notice how even the exposures are. i just bumped the ISO down a full stop, and then bumped the SS down a stop, etc.
Notice the file sizes increase with noise...i know, technically they should, but just kinda cool to actually see it.
