manual settings help

hi ive had my canon a95 for about a month and i still am depended on the auto settings. its a shame because it has all these built in manual settings but i have no idea how to use them. and i know if i did, i wouldnt get the less then desirable results that sometime show up with the auto setting. so if someone could explain what each means and how to use them it would be great.

You may not have been happy with the answers you got when you posted this same question in "Tips and Techniques," but the answers won't change here.
