I recently picked up a SD200 and am kind of skeptical about carrying it in my pocket b/c of the flimsy looking lens cover, and not wanting it to get scratched, not as concerned about the LCD. Anyone have any experience carrying one of these in their pants pockets without any problems?

I just bought an SD300 and have carried it in my pocket while backcountry skiing and winter hiking. No problems so far. It's pretty solid, actually.

thanks David, this camera has been awesome so far, only had for about a week. still using the tiny 16 mb sd card that came with it, until i find a larger one worth buying, so havent had a chance to use video mode, read some wonderful things though.

Even though it's pocketable, I'd still recommend a camera case. If you search on ebay, there's a guy who sells "custom-fit" cases for sd200/300...comes from Hong Kong. It's made of neoprene and it's very snug. I just got mine and LOVE IT. I'd worry about scratching the huge LCD if I put my keys, coins, etc in the same pocket even if just for a moment.

Yhaa I'm always worrying about damaging my toys.
The SD300 isn't cheap.. one of the more pricier cameras.
Canon has a case available specificly for the SD200/300 I just got one its pretty decent where you can strap on your belt.
But I'm sorta disapointed with the official case because it doesn't have replacement battery storage or extra memory card pockets for your extras.
Just a camera case and the casing doesn't cover everything there are little holes on the corner of it.
The official case isn't so bad roughly 10$ CAN decent case but would preffer one that had extra pockets. :)
All in all its decent

I've got a mini sling pouch which can carry my Ixus 500 and has extra compartments which can carry 6 CF cards and 4 batteries. Got it for only $15. Try searching on eBay - They've got the best deals.

I have had my SD200 for 2 weeks now. Love this little camera. I also have a Minolta Dimage 7HI and an A2. Anyway I carry the SD200 in my pocket all the time. I bought the Canon hard case for this camera but really don't care for it. The camera in this case is really feels too big in my pocket.
I found an JOH-E Handwarmer I had around and the camera fits perfect in the handwarmer bag. Draw strings on the bag keeps the camera in the bag while it is in my pocket. Now I don't have to worry about doing damage to my camera with other things I carry in my pocket.
I was thinking possibly a tobaco bag would work too, but don't know if or where you could buy one that would fit the SD200.

i have a SD300 and I bought a screen protector for it to wrd off any scratches on the LCD. This screen protector consists of a square of plastic film that stays on by static electricity and surprisingly it really does stay on! Cost a fraction to buy, though I got mine from Malaysia, I'm sure you can get these online, just make sure you get the 2 inch (diagonal) screen one. Prob is that the SD300 has a 2.2 inch screen and therefore there's a tiny gap around the edge so you can notice it, but this merely allows you to take off the screen protector if you wish and also it's a small price to pay for a pristine screen.
Now i carry the SD300 in my pockets with no worries at all.

I also have the sd200. It is a great, extremely pocketable little camera. I had the same fears as you about putting it in my pocket but I didn't want a bulky bag to carry either. I bought a snug little felt lined nylon case for it at my local Target store for $3.00. It fits the camera perfectly and doesn't add much bulk. I put that in my pocket and no worries about the screen or the lens.
