Recently I downloaded Canon's ImageBrowser's 5.0 update to update
the application that originally came with my Powershot G5.

I have a PowerMac G4 with two drives running 10.2.8. And another drive running OS9.22 (which is irrelevant). The 5.0 update installer
would proceed up to the point of determining if I had a version of ImageBrowser installed. Finally on one drive a dialog box
would inform me that the update can be installed but there is no
application to update when in fact there was. I spoke to tech support at Canon who after many attempts to help me install the update decided to send me a CD for the G6 which had the full program of ImageBrowser on it. Then I ran the CD which contained the full version of ImageBrowser 5.0. It would start the installation and go up to the point of preparing to install
and then just hang. I called Canon again and was put in touch with
a senior tech Macintosh person and we went through some things and she also gave up finally saying she had nothing else to recommend I do.

I have thrown out all former versions and preferences when updating
except just the previous version that I was updating. I even cleaned out
one partition of a new hard drive by erasing the entire partition so that nothing was on it except a new 10.2.8 system and my mouse software. And then tried the CD installation. The installer stalled everytime. I repaired permissions and even tried to install the program as root user. I used cocktail to prebind the system. I can't figure out what else to do next
except abandon this sinking ship and just use the former version 3.6.

I have not had a problem in the past installing former versions of
ImageBrowser. I told this to the mac tech person at Canon. She
said that 5.0 has a different installer than the other versions and so my problem? Nevertheless, I must say they made a great effort helping me
solve this problem. However, perhaps someone more familiar with
the workings of OSX would have the answer.

Therefore, has anyone had any experience installing ImageBrowser 5.0 or
has any idea as to what might cause this installation problem. I would
so much appreciate hearing from you.

Thank you
