View Full Version : Apology for delays

I wanted to publicly apologize for the rather slow review rate in recent weeks. In recent years, I've been trying to spend a little less time working, and a little more time taking care of myself.
More recently, I have been inundated with meetings, house construction projects, family emergencies, and technical difficulties, which all add up to less work getting done.
I'm hoping to finish the K20D review tomorrow and post several new galleries as well.
Thanks for your patience,
Jeff

Hey Jeff ... isn't it weird how life just ... kind of gets in the way of these photographic things?
Who knew?
Good luck and thanks!

Hi there Jeff...
Please don't feel the need to apologise mate.
We all have our "real" lives to attend to beyond cyberspace, and after all, family (and self) comes first regardless.
I'm sure that we're all more than happy with the flow of reviews you spend so much time producing: Rather a well-written, hands-on, in-depth review than something cobbled together from bits 'n' pieces of press releases pumped out every two or three days!
Take it easy. :)
Life happens, Jeff.
If everything went as planned all the time just think how insanely boring life would be.

Maybe you need help? :)
I do, but I can't afford to hire anyone right now...

Hey... I like reading the reviews on here... and better late than never. :)
Is there any way to get the manufacturers to send Jeff their cameras to review BEFORE they announce their existence to the public, so Jeff has time (taking into account his real life) to have a review done & posted by the time the cam hits the store shelves?
One of the first sections I read of the reviews is the high ISO performance.
There are a few cameras I'd like to see reviewed sometime, but either Jeff already has too many in the queue, he doesn't have them in his posession yet, or they haven't been announced yet.
Also... sometimes... I have taken matters into my own hands, at least partially. Yesterday I was in a Ritz store, and shot an ISO series of myself on the Panasonic FZ28, and the Nikon D700. (I wanted to also try the S100FS, but they didn't have it in stock, and haven't had it any time I've gone in there.) (On the D700, I shot ISO 100 through 25600, then 25600 underexposed at -1, -2, -3, -4 and -5 stops.) I couldn't figure out how to get the Panasonic to use higher than ISO 1600 without going into full auto mode, in which case it was like several stops overexposed, so I didn't test the higher resolutions. I also didn't test the highest non-pixel-binned ISO at various stops of underexposure, like I should have. (That's one way I try to squeeze a little more high ISO - when hitting highest full-resolution ISO available and shutter speeds are still too slow with aperture wide open, underexpose. I could always PP and level the images later.)

Obviously work takes a back seat to life. Work so that you can live, not the other way around, I always say..
I'm cool with waiting, but I bet not everyone will feel that way, and you might put the site reliability in jeapordy if you can't keep to a deadline. Gotta work something out mate.. :) Maybe get a part time college kid to do some of the standard tests for u..?!?! Hehe.
I do think for now, you should over-estimate time taken for a review. That way, all reviews that come in early will be a pleasant surprise. And noone will be dissapointed by visiting and finding a review not posted yet....
A slow site that's reliable is more desirable!!
Oh, and keep up the very excellent work....:D
you suck Jeff man, seriously we want those damn reviews
joking, take as long as you want, for its your reviews that we are here!

No problem, Jeff. Things don't always go as planned. And I'm a patient guy. I don't mind waiting for something good... ;)

Jeff I'm with everyone else life just gets in the way sometimes & family takes priority. Whatever you do dont skimp on the reviews just to get them out quicker. Just a thought, maybe we could all help in some way perhaps you could add a user reviews section to the website & ask people to submit their user reviews to you. That way you could get something out as quick as people bought new. If you did a template with basic requirements to keep it simple for people then you would get fairly consistant early hands on reports that others could read whilst waiting for your full reviews.
Anyway keep up the good work this site is still my favourite place to visit after several years of surfing photosites.
