View Full Version : head-mounted cam with continuous/burst/intervalometer?

I've heard of lifecasting video cameras, which someone can mount on their head to point at whatever they're looking at, and stream video. Is there a still camera version? It should:
have at least 2mp resolution, but maybe 1.3 would be ok. higher (like 8, or even 12, if it has a large (1", 4/3", or APS-C) sensor, would be nice.
have probably a standard (~45-50mm) prime lens, but wider angle (28mm, or even 36mm) would be ok.
be capable of shooting at least 1fps (preferably more like 2fps) continuously, depending on the speed of the memory card (with a 350x card able to shoot almost 9 times faster than a 40x card), until the SD card is full.
head mounted - similar to those miner's headlamps that are mounted on an elastic band. front or side mounted is ok.
would like it to have at least a 2/3" sensor, but if it's lower res than 3-4mp maybe 1/1.6" or 1/1.7" would be ok.
would take SD/SDHC memory cards. Dual slots would be nice so i have enough space (depending, of course, on my selected resolution and shooting speed), for up to, say, 16 hours of continuous shooting.
doesn't need to be super small like a couple ultra mini video cams I've seen pics of. I'm thinking, if it's side mounted (mounted above the ear, for example), something the size that a 1-D-cell Maglite would be is ok. (For a front-mounted one, I'd be thinking a little smaller, like the size of a miners headlamp or something like that.)

(Chances are I'd delete 98% of the images, but the fact that I'd get pics (even if they're not high res or dSLR quality) when I otherwise wouldn't, would be worth it.)

Something like this would be nice to have, cause there are times I want pics of something, and either don't have my camera with me, or by the time i actually take the pic, the moment has long since passed. I'd be willing to give up some image resolution and optical zoom, if it means getting the shots.

Considering that I'm only asking for a standard focal length prime lens, or possibly a wideangle lens, with relatively low resolution compared to the sensor size (say, 2mp on a 1/1.7", 3mp on a 2/3", 8mp on a 4/3", 10mp on an APS-C, for example), would it be that hard to have something halfway decent in low light? There may be times I crank it up to, say, ISO 12800, at F/1.4, so I can get 1/250" shots indoors.

Even if it doesn't have that good of low light capability (for example, only able to get 1/60" indoors, with noise levels comparable to ISO 400 on a good-quality point-&-shoot, or ISO 1600 on an APS-C dSLR, or ISO 6400 on a Nikon D3), is there anything that exists in this category?

These are getting more ridiculous and less funny. You seem to be saying that you're willing to walk around all day with a camera strapped to your head incase you miss a shot. Not to mention the fact that kind of thing very likely doesn't exist because few people are going to do more than laugh at such a pointless concept, but it would be easy for any thief with very low aspirations to steal it off your head. There is also the fact you'd look a complete idiot. If you want that kind of thing...buy a video camera and walk around pointing it at everything you see. Photography is capturing the moment, not pointing your head in the right direction and hoping your camera with a collosal memory card to hold a days worth of photos at 2fps will catch it for you.

If you're wondering why I replied...I got bored.

ok, maybe a video camera would be ok, but more like a webcam style, as i'd only be doing onscreen display and not making any prints.

This would NOT be a 15-megapixel camera with a 500mm telephoto lens, it'd be more like a 2mp camera with a 43mm lens or something like that.

Ah, the irony! It burns!

You've been saying this for something like FOUR years now!

Do you ever intend actually buying a camera — any camera — or are you simply a daydreamer?

Cheers :)
