I bought the Cannon A620 about two years ago, and it works great for my purpose.
Recently, I forgot to change the battery, and it start to warn of it. Then I bought the new battery, and reopen it, this time, the history picture review still work (LCD has no problem), but the camera not able to take picture any more.
The shutter still open, and when I point to some object, it is all black on LCD, I just randomly take a blank shoot, the flash light will flash (in low light room), and I can hear the click sound. But the picture was not taken, just plane black.
I think this camera may passed the warranty date, but will like to know if any one has experience of how to make the easy fix (if it is any tricky) of this kind of problem.
Thanks.

Looks like a CCD sensor failure. Repair may be costly... :(

If you are able to see the menu, try reseting the camera to the factory default - it helped once in such situation.

Go to the support section of the Canon website. There is a recall on many of their early A series cameras for a CCD defect. I have a 5 year old A70 that quit. They fixed it for free and paid postage both ways.

Except the A620 is not on the list, and wasn't built with the bad CCD from the recall. It may be a similar problem, but you'll have to make your case individually with Canon if you want them to cover the repair under warranty.
