I just bought the Canon Sd200 and need to upgrade my SD card. I would like to be able to shoot 640x480 video....I have read conflicting info. Do I or don't I need a high-speed SD card to take high quality videos? Will a "regular" 512MB SD card suffice? I'm also considering the Lexar 32x 512MB card or the Sandisk Ultra II or ATP 60x (!) 512 MB SD card. Any recommendations from personal use? Thanks!

I use a Sandisc regular 512M card in my SD300 and it works fine in all video and burst modes. Can't speak about other manufacturers, but no need for the Ultra-II IMO.
Got it at dell.com for $31. I'll probably pick up another 512 M or possibly 1 G card in the near future.

I have the SD 200 and currently use a 60x 512mb sd card by Kingmax that I bought from http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=20-155-257&DEPA=1 a few weeks ago. It was cheaper then but it works very well with movies 640x480 and 30fps.

Forgot to tell you. I have another 128mb regular card by kingston that skips when recording 640x480 at full 30fps. It seems to do well at 16fps at least until the end of the card.

I sent you a pm than realized that others might benefit from your answer...."Have you downloaded a large video directly from your SD300 to your computer yet via USB cable?" using Sandisk SD card (non-Ultra II) and "If so, wouldn't a high-speed card download videos much more quickly?" Thanks Again!

Yes, and probably. I just set it to download and left the room. It took a few minutes but it wasn't a huge video. I doubt I'll be taking any videos longer than a minute. The time doesn't really matter much to me.

Mobsta, whats the longest you have recorded straight with the 512, without any hitches? just curious. Thanks.

I haven't recorded many movies with the sd200 but it recorded to the end of the card when I was testing my card at full resolution. Turned out to be a little over 4 minutes. But obviously if you used 16fps or a lower resolution you could get 10 minutes and higher on the card. Memory keeps getting larger and larger though so eventually we'll be able to record large high quality videos on these things. I'm really impressed with the videos at 640x480 though and 16fps doesn't seem to affect the motion quality all too much.
