I have an Ixus 750 and an S5-IS - delighted with both.

However, I also have a now-redundant Canon A-1 plus Tamron 75-200 zoom that I toted everywhere with me, and used, for years. I loved that camera in its glory days.

I've been considering buying a DSLR [EOS - because I like Canon or Olympus - for size] but don't really want yet another camera/lenses unless I can justify it/them.

I'm an opportunist photographer - always have at least one on me. When I take a picture I like it to be as good as possible, but I don't [often] plan to shoot things, so anything too big/heavy I probably wouldn't bother to carry. ....Unless I was truly smitten and/or it gave me something tangible the current kit can't provide.

I take portraits, landscapes, low light - I had an f1.4 50mm lens on the Canon A-1 that i miss a lot.

At present I'm looking for excuses NOT to buy a DSLR as that might be difficult to justify at home...... Difficult, not impossible. ;)

Anyway, to cut to the chase, I have been looking at augmenting the capabilities of the S5-IS with the two converters that are available:

- Canon TC DC58B tele
- Canon WC DC58A wide

Has anyone experience of these? In the past I kept away from converters because they degraded both the image quality and f-stop of lenses. Am I correct to think this is the case for these too? I guess optics are optics, after all....

Any samples pictures, experiences to share on anything above?
