I used to use a Nikon Coolpix 990 for taking photos of operations. The big advantage was the swivel body that allowed the camera to point downwards while the LCD screen stayed vertical. I had the camera on a benbo tripod arm over the operation, and a remote on a lead, so someone could trigger the camera away from the operation.
I do not need huge megapixels but I now need another camera that has a LCD screen that swivels. An infrared remote facility would be ideal too.

Any suggestions?

Hi - the Sony DSC-H9 is an ultrazoom camera with both an Infrared Remote (I believe it's included) and a flip-up LCD. This may suit your needs, but I believe the camera is discontinued. You should be able to find it used, though

Canon S5 IS wit its rotating LCD looks like a nice alternative, but there is no remote control option. Sony DSC-H50 and Fujifilm S100fs have a tiltable LCD, which is not as versatile as rotating one, but Sony has a IR remote control supplied (RMT-DSC2) and you can buy optional wired remote (RR-80) for Fuji camera.

Also, some SLR's have swivel screen.
