Hi there,

I am currently travelling the world snapping happily away with my Canon S5, but there are certain situations I am still trying to master... I am new to all this.

Often when I am taking pictures in bright sunshine or where the back ground of my picture is very bright, for instance, a street picture with lovely mountains far off in the distance... I cannot get the mountains into focus as they are too bright... I usually use the P setting set to bright sunshine, I also reduce the exposure. I have varying results but I am sure someone out there knows what I should do and what settings to use? Please help.

Do I need to buy the conversion kit so I can fit some solar filters to the camera?

I look forward to all your help, thanks folks.

Focus and brightness are not related. Distant subjects, such as mountains, may appear a little soft due to atmospheric haze, though. If you are focusing on "street shots", then of course the background will not be sharp. You can get the adaptor, not a conversion lens, to hold filters if you feel you must use them.

Yes, I think I probably used the incorrect terminology, (focus, brightness) but you catch my drift anyway right?

I thought there may be a way to get the far off background of my pictures sharper and more vivid? Sometimes the reason the main foreground of a picture works is because the background improves and adds to it right...

I will keep on experimenting, cheers...

Maybe you could post an example of what you're talking about...
