Model # NG 2477 (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/554024-REG/National_Geographic_NG_2477_NG_2477_Earth_Explorer .html)

So with a second body my old backpack bag is not big enough for me anymore so I've been thinking of adding a bag to handle the extra load or in some cases replace the backpack. I really like the shoulder bags because they allow easy access to the gear. Removing a backpack to grab something quick is not practical at times.

Another thing I really wanted was a bag that was discrete, a bag that didn't scream "I'm worth a lot of money steal me!" and also something that looked good and I would feel comfortable carrying.

I've seen the National Geographic bags online but until recently haven't seen one in person. I saw them in a local camera store and decided to try one out. I picked up the biggest shoulder bag they had. The idea is flexibility I can carry all my gear in one bag or I can carry a striped down version and carry other stuff like a rain jacket, food, etc.

So here is the bag.

All closed up there is easy access to the two front pouches.

Open the flap and you have access to the main compartment and two extra pouches. One of the pouches can fit two flashes + memory cards and really thin items. The main compartment fits two bodies with lenses attached easily. Really big tele lenses like the 300mm 2.8 wouldn't fit but any reasonably sized lens would fit comfortably. With the two bodies in there there isn't much room for anything else but you can find room to put a few other lenses without problem as long as they are smallish (kit lenses. consumer primes etc.)

The pouches that organize the bodies can easily be removed to create a large opening for daily items like clothing or anything else you might want to put in there. Also notice the laptop pouch in the back. It will hold up to a 17 inch laptop.

Conclusions, This bag is huge! too big for me. If I were to fill it up I would not want to carry it. If I put one body in it and some miscellaneous items in it it is still too big and cumbersome to carry around comfortably. I'm going to return it for the next size smaller and report back later.

I've tried that bag. It is a biggie. Whatever shoulder bag you end up with I can't recommend the UpStrap enough. You have to try it to believe it.

I'll have to check that strap out. I remember you mentioning it before. What kind of bag are you using?

Nick,

Right now I am using mostly sling packs so I have switched the Upstrap over to my laptop bag. It works just as well there. For my camera I am using the bandolier style strap. It works really well because I travel a lot and there is no way that someone run by and snatch it off me unless they cut through it. I bought mine a year or so ago and Joe is constantly making refinements to the various models. I'll probably never use another strap.
