On my SD700 I had the following settings:

Shooting mode: M
Focus mode - use center point; turn AiAF** off
Metering - Evaluative
Sensitivity - 50
Exposure Compensation: -1/3
Auto focus assist lamp- ON
Red-eye mode - OFF
White balance - AUTO
Digital Zoom - OFF
LCD Review: OFF

For the 870IS should I go the same?

For the 870IS should I go the same?While your particular settings at any given time should be entirely dependent on the shooting situation, those are my exact default settings on my SD500 as well! :)
