I want to replace my Canon SD700IS....
Based on the Elph Family tree the new version would be the SD890IS...
but I see a lot of comments on the SD870IS...
What would be the best for pictures of my little kid, indoor and outdoor pics?
Thanks

The 870 has a wide angle lens, going down to 28mm. This is great for scenery, architecture, and other places where you are constrained from backing up to get more in the shot. It also has a 3" LCD but no optical view finder.
The 890 has a 5x zoom lens that doesn't go very wide but has significantly more telephoto range. That will help you get closer to your subject and will be very helpful for action and sports, or simply getting close to people's faces. It has a 2.5" LCD and an optical view finder.
You'll have to decide which pieces are important to you.

Picture Quality wise... both are good?

Both are reviewed here and Jeff liked the picture quality of both of them. Neither is great in low light (but nothing in this class really is) and the SD870 has some softness at the edges.

Based on the forum talk... looks like the 870 is more popular than the 890....
Im really undecided... I like the idea of the 5X on the 890.... but seem to prefer the comments on the 870..

It is official, I jot bought the 870IS.... 269.99$ at Best Buy...
I used their Price Garantee policy.... I found this price on the web and they matched the price!
I will be playing with the Camera for the next few hours...
That is the one I would've picked. You are probably going to be very surprised how much more you appreciate the wide angle lens than 5x zoom.
