I want to replace my SD700IS....

And I really hesitate between the 870IS and the TZ5....
Like the 10X optic on the TZ5 but dont like the low light quality issue

On the other hand, like the quality of Canon... but it lack some zoom

Any recommendation?

The Sony H10 has a long zoom and is better in low light than the Panasonic TZ5.

What does the SD700IS not have that you want?

The SD700IS has everything I want.... It just that it not working anymore...
My wife drop the camera from about 7 feet high in stairs...
All I have is the last 3 pictures in timer mode.... while the camera was dropping...

After reading around probably I will forget the long zoom... and go either with the SD870IS
or the SD890IS....

The H10 is too big.., Im looking more compact. And after trying the TZ5...
Im staying with Canon familiy

I think Panasonic gets a bad rep. If you look at the Canon's test shots at ISO 800 and 1600 they look terrible!! So the Panasonic is 3% worse and everyone brings it up. Both are nearly unusable so you aren't going to be using an ISO 1600 as a big print out of either brand. The TZ5 is a bigger camera though, so that may be an issue. I wouldn't really fret about the supposed noise problems though. You can't tell the difference at normal print sizes.

If you are choosing between the 2 cameras, the 870 has a 28mm wide angle lens with a short zoom and the 890 has a standard 35 mm lens with a 5x zoom. Also the 870 has a 3" screen while the 890 has a smaller screen but a viewfinder. Both are pretty well rated cameras

Regarding the TZ5.... My main issue was while trying to capture my little 1 year old boy, the focus was slow, same for the Intelligent ISO and the iExposure.

I also tried in Normal mode and pictures where blurry and out of focus. Same for Baby mode and even in burst mode.

With my SD700, in burst mode I was able to capture great pictures of my little boy
without pp and I would say that 50% where good in burst mode. With the Tz5, 20% where OK.... none was good as the SD700.

Other from that, outside pictures where great with the TZ5, and the optical zoom or the HD movie was a great option.... but since most of my pics are with family and my little boy. I prefer to get a new Canon that will give more satisfaction.

You mentioned specifically the Low light issues with the panasonic in your original post, which is why I mentioned the ISO performance. I think the Canons are great cameras, I just think people tend to look closer for noise on panasonics because they've been told to. Canon is not that great in low light either (nobody is ;))

I commented on the Canons above. I think the viewfinder, screen size and wide angle are your deciding factors on those. Both are great cameras.

I don't plan on buying another sony product because of their rootkit debacle with music CD's.
I may be cutting off my nose to spite my face, but that's the way it goes.:)
