:eek:Hello All,
I am a amatuer photo taker and have had the Canon S3IS for about 1.5 years. Have a question that has been bugging me. As I use the different functions on the camera, ie color accent, color swap, even with Auto, my pictures have file sizes that range from 2-3.5 megapixels. This is a 6 megapixel camera and I have had very few pictures of that high quality. I am wondering if I maybe hit a wrong setting or something of that nature. Is there any advice out there for me on how to increase the quality to get it back tot he 4-6 megapixel range???? Right now my settings are set at 2816X2112 and set on Superfine in regards to quality settings for the camera itself. Thank you in advance for your help.

Rob2816x2212 is the max resolution. Check if the jpeg image size set to L (large)...

.....my pictures have file sizes that range from 2-3.5 megapixels. This is a 6 megapixel camera and I have had very few pictures of that high quality. RobI'm guessing that you're confusing megapixels (MP) with megabytes (MB) here — which is easy to do! MP is the resolution of the camera's sensor (hor photosites x vert photosites), whilst MB is the size of the image file produced, and which can depend on several variables, for example the amount of compression that's applied by the camera's firmware.

In other words, to be pedantic, there's no such thing as a 3.5MP image (well, there can be strictly speaking, but not in this context). However, there is a 3.5MB image.

For example, my 8MP S8000fd camera produces a 3.9MB image file at its highest resolution, but I'll never see an 8MB image.

Hope this helps :)
