I've done a lot of researching and I've narrowed down my choices to the Canon Powershot A80 and Sony Cybershot DSC-P73. I'll be using the camera mostly for travel, special events, random pictures, etc. I'd like good indoor, low-light quality pictures as well as outdoor ones. Next year I'll be going to Europe for the first time and I want to use a digital camera instead of bringing tons of rolls of film. That, of course, means I'll be carrying extra batteries and memory card/stick(s).
I'd like some help deciding between these two, or any recommendations. I only considered the Sony a few days ago and I have a lot of time to ponder and decide and wait for prices to drop a bit.
I'd appreciate any help. Basically, I just want some camparisons mainly in price (camera price + accesories=good value?)and picture quality.

Since you're going to be shooting a lot of photos, and carrying it for an extended period of time, I would make sure the camera fits comfortably in your hands, and isn't too heavy. I suggest going to the store and handling both (and any other one you are interested in) before deciding on anything.

Thanks, but what about picture quality comparisons? I heard Sony cameras have strong noise suppression to the point where it's too strong.

Try the A75. Low cost good all around camera.

Yes. Canon A70/A75, Nikon 3100/3200 - anything like that.

The A70/75 and 3100 both take AA batteries and Compact Flash. The 3200 takes AA batteries and Secure Digital.

I recommend 256mb memory cards and recommend several - more if you intend to use the video facility on the Canons. I don't recommend the Nikon video on the 3100.

We own both the Canon A-75 and the Canon-80. We feel that the digital photos produced by the Canon A-80 are superior to those of the Canon A-75

Thanks. I'll try your suggestions out when I go to a camera store. I'm pretty sure now which cameras I'll have to decide between. The Canon A75/80 and maybe still possibly the Sony DSC-P73.

Price comparisons for the cameras right now in Canada are

Canon Powershot A75 - 399.99
A80 - 499.99
Sony Cybershot DSC-P73 - 399.99

does anyone know what the prices were when these cameras first came out?
