Hey,

I have a problem with my Canon Powershot A560. When I turned it on yesterday I noticed that when putting the mode selector wheel (on top of the camera, to select modes like 'Portrait', 'Video', etc.) on 'Auto' it switches to 'Portrait' instead of 'Auto', when switching to 'Portrait' (one click down 'auto') it stays on 'Portrait'. The other modes work fine, but I can't get 'Auto' to work. It just says 'Portrait'.

Is my camera broken or is this a software failure? Any tips?

Thanks in advance.

PS. Worked perfectly 2 months ago, didn't use it untill yesterday.

Try taking the batteries out and leaving it for a while.

I notice this camera came out on 2007-02-21. Is it possibly under warranty still?

If it's not under warranty and the battery removal and replacement doesn't help then unless you can live with the fault, you need a new camera.

Digital cameras under $500 are pretty much regarded as disposable by manufacturers.

You could also try moving the mode dial one click further than your desired setting, and then coming back to that setting.

It sounds like it could be a problem with the mechanical(?) registration points on the innards of the mode dial.

Cheers :)

I had a similar problem with my S2...sent it to Canon...they fixed it under warranty and had it back to me in 12 days...

It is over a year old, so I can't send it back.

It is over a year old, so I can't send it back.No harm in asking for an estimate (except losing the shipping cost)...sometimes they don't charge depending on the repair...
