I borrowed my sisters, S9000 only to have it break without me getting a chance to use it. Of course, the blame falls back on me. I took it to Ritz and and they want $250 up front. She bought the camera for $350 back in 05. Anyone know of any other reputable repair shops. I live in or near Baltimore, MD. The camera does not startup, I tried to change the batteries. Thanks in advance.

Offer to buy her another camera. For less than $160 you can buy a Fuji S700fd (at Dell) which, while not as good as the S9000, is much smaller and lighter and is a pretty good dslr-like camera, especially for the price.

I wouldn't buy a lesser camera as a replacement, but I'd be more inclined to replace it with the same thing or its successor. How would you feel if someone borrowed and wrecked your BMW then offered to replace it with a Taurus?

I would just ask your sister what she wants you to do, work it out with her. Whatever it costs, it is not worth losing a sister over. I would offer to have it fixed, or pay her what it would cost to have it fixed in cash. Don't try to pick a new different camera for her, that is just asking for trouble.

Unfortunately the new version of that camera is the S100fs, which is $700. The s8100 is similar spec-wise, but lacks the manual zoom rings.

I appreciate all the input, I went ahead and sent it back to Fuji to have them analyze the camera. I didnt even get a chance to use the camera being that it wouldnt start up at all for me. Hopefully its only minor repair.
