Great work man. I'm definitely going to mimic that group shot style. #9 is really nice, love the balance of flash and ambient. Your off camera flash work is really great!

Yea, Jamie rocks weddings, but how did this old post get dug up? When I saw the photos I knew that wasn't taken in Mass this past weekend. ;)

Hey Jamie - SWEET Stuff...and I see your gearbox is growing nicely!

Congrats on being published!!

Curious, when you have "off camera flash" going like you do in 1, 2, & 6, are you having assistants help or are you toting around a light weight stand and mounting the flash units on those?

Again, excellent work man!

Yeah definitely a blast-from-the-past thread here, but thanks everyone!

JMW - I had an assistant along for this wedding, and he held the light in 1 & 2.

In #5, I had the lights set up on light stands. It just so happens that I was describing my lighting setup for this wedding on another forum a couple of months ago and drew them a diagram. Here's what it looked like:

This venue is an old barn converted to a reception hall. Very dark with a dark wood ceiling. So bouncing a flash would have eaten up all of my flash power and added a color cast to the photos. There were balconies to get the flashes up high, but beams running throughout the room, so I had to be careful of shadows. My solution was to place the flashes on the balcony at a level that was below the ceiling beams, aimed straight at the support beams. This ensured that any shadow cast by the beam fell on the next beam over, instead of on a person in my photo.

Here's another shot where one of the lights is visible:

Always great to see your work Jamie. I see some fresh stuff in there which is great.

Since when did you come back to Canon though?

Thanks Christian!

I never left Canon. I have a bit of Nikon envy (esp after playing extensively with a D700, then being sorely disappointed with the features of the 5DII by comparison), but it would be a poor business decision for me to switch.
