Canon S3 replacement lenscap

Hi all, any and all suggestions appreciated.

My daughter has lost the lenscap for her S3is.::(::mad:
I've looked on the web for over an hour, including the Canon website, and spoken with a Canon dealer. No joy.

I know thats its possible to add an adapter, UV skylight, lenscap, offering the wide and zoom lenses as options, but I dont want that expense.

I just want to replace it for (say) £5 or $10.

Any thoughts on where to buy, or other similar lenses (other than S1,2,5 ofcourse)???

Thanks, JAI.

I'm not quite sure what thread size the S3 lens has, but you can buy "snap-in" lens caps at $5-95 for the Canon here:

LensmateOnline (http://www.lensmateonline.com/newsite/order_S2_1.html)

Scroll down to the heading "Plastic Clip-In Lens Cap w/ tether"

Cheers :)

The problem is that the S2/S3/S5 doesn't have a filter screw mount unless you add a conversion lens adaptor - the snap-in lens caps don't work.

Airscrew, I've looked for extras in the past myself without success. If Canon can't help you, I really, really don't know where you would be able to get one, at least in retail channels. This might seem odd, but you might want to advertise on your local craigslist and see if anyone has a broken S1/S2/S3 they'd be willing to part out.

Best of luck

Don't know for sure, but it looks like a regular 49mm or 52mm (not sure which one) push on lens cap might work. Get a ruler and measure to be sure...I don't have a ruler handy with milimeters on it...

These caps can be found at B&H...

I still think that if you tracked down the right area (i.e. parts department) at Canon that they could help you. For example, in the States, this was one users experience as posted at dpreview:

"If you simply want a replacement lens cap (instead of the Lensmate adapter), you need to call Cannon (800) 385-2155 and ask for the Parts Department. I had to replace the lens cap on my daughter's S2 IS, and the part is NOT listed on Cannon's website. The parts dept has them; the cost for the cap for the S2 IS was $7.00 (U.S.) plus $6.00 shipping. I bought an extra since shipping for two was the same $6.00."

As you referred to pricing in Pounds, then perhaps calling Canon's UK offices woud be the way to go and ask for their main parts department. I have to believe that if Canon USA sells the lens cap for the S3 that they will in the UK!

Best of luck with your search. (be sure to update this thread and let us know what happened. :))

PS. I use the lensmate adapter and a clip-in style lens cap on my S3.
