View Full Version : A Day in the life of the Canon DSLR forum

Who remembers the "A day in the life of" series of books where hundreds of photographers were sent out in a country to take photos on one day which were then amalgamated into a coffee table book?

Well I do so why don't we do a similar thing here.

I have designated Sunday 20 July 2008 as the "Day in the life of the Canon DSLR forum" day.

The idea is that on 20 July people take a photo or photos of where they are. The photo can be on any subject a landscape, a portrait, the kids in the back yard, lunch, it can be spontaneous or highly planned it can be anything you like but it must be taken on 20 July and with a Canon DSLR.

After you have selected one photo post it in this thread and lets see what we get.

BTW: If people from other forums want to steal this idea that's fine by me after all I stole it from somewhere. :D

cool, I'm gonna do it! although I have trouble posting only one photo at a time, maybe we could post a few?

Problematic since I won't have a camera with me on the 20th...Might be able to sneak a shot in at some point if I'm lucky. I'll give it a go. ;)

Well, wasn't Neal Armstrong standing on the Moon, when he popped the shutter on July 20, 1969?

Now, that's "a day ... in a Lifetime."

I guess you just never know ...

Not many posts from me in recent times... So I thought this might be the perfect thread:p

For long I've been wanting to do the 'reflection in water drop' shots.. so a lazy sunday afternoon seemed to be the perfect time to finally attempt it:)

Reverse mounted the 28mm FD (18year old, bought off ebay for $30:D) on my 400D, attached the 430EX to the newly acquired OC-E3, got myself a paper flower and a garden sprayer:p

Set up shop near the kitchen sink... and this is what I got:)

Either the data in your camera is wrong or you're cheating and posting a picture from yesterday!

no, it is quite correct, it was done yesterday, but i've spent the night there, and today it was raining...shall i retract it then?

Faisal, do these workers think you're stalking them yet?
Just kidding. I've enjoyed your series. I think I'd like this one even more if the man who was catching the board was also in color.

I agree. No sense in having such a thread if the entire premise is ignored. I won't be playing - not in protest but because I don't feel like touching a camera today. 6 hours is a long reception, IMWAHO. I didn't get in until 4AM and hit the sack at 5. I'm still in recovery.

Yesterday, today, whatever. It's all for fun guys. It's not like it was a shot from a month ago. Point is the guy/girl was there today, it's what he/she's doing today.

I think they know I exist but till now they haven't launched a brick at me so I suppose they don't feel stalked.... ;) :D
I was planning to put the other man in color too but I felt I had done that too often so I did this..... :)
btw the guy above is the one taking the board from the guy below...

I agree with Cdifoto and JTL (except for the last post)....the reason for the thread was to have a picture taken today(though it's already 21st here). So irrespective of how good the picture is (btw it is really a very good picture), if it wasn't taken today, it will then feel more at home in the 'Canon DSLR picture of the day' thread and not here....

Great shot D.

thaking - the focus looks a little off on this one; ? motion blur. Did you use a tripod?

I've got a couple to post from today. I uploaded them to my Smugmug account, but Smugmug is having technical difficulties and is down right now :(. I probably won't get to post them until tomorrow.

That looks like a decent set-up. Even a crappy tripod should do OK under those circumstances. The 100mm macro is a very sharp lens so I suspect your focus was a little off. f/5, 100mm at that close of a distance doesn't leave much of an area in focus.

Here's one of my blueberry shots taken last year with the 60mm macro and my old XT and a cheap tripod at f/4 with natural window light....(yours should easily be this sharp)....

your shots are always great...definitely puts mine to shame...i'll try it again and see what i can get...i also like the fact that you had more blueberries in the shot - taking up most of the frame...

still learning, and it's shots like yours that inspire me to try harder. :D
