Here is a shot from my 20D and 35mm 1.4. Same venue same band different day. (same lighting set up)

It was a quick B&W conversion.
I really thought I would get better dynamic range with the film. I'm disappointed.
P.S. I know it's OOF. It's damn hard to MF in light like that!

Digital FTW! :D :p
Seriously though, the film has that nostalgic feel to it, but the digital is definitely cleaner. Which one is better depends on your desires.

Yeah, the digital is cleaner, but I've always had an attraction to black and white film grain. By the way, I like that first shot.

Yeah, there's definitely something great about that old high ISO (or was it "ASA") film-look... even if it's a little OOF :) Nice work Nick...

Thanks guys, I totally agree about the grain, ya gota love it! I'm starting to see how important the processing of film is too. I'll post some examples when I get home from work. And to give the film credit they looked a lot more punchy in DPP but I must have fudged the export. Lightroom isn't recognizing the files for some reason so I'm editing them in DPP which I'm not very comfortable with.
Here are a few of my older attempts at copying the film look.

I should be able to get a more accurate replication of the look now that I have more experience with the real thing.

I think it has its place, but I shot some pics of Kyle awhile back on some ISO400 B&W film and he looked like a child of the Depression.

I don't doubt it man. I've found that they all need a little PP on the computer to make em usable
Did you get them scanned?

Yeah I had the developer scan them as tiffs. They aren't worth PP though as I misfocused damn near all of 'em.
