View Full Version : Canon S1 IS CF memory card: which type should I use ?
I'd appreciate very much if I got some good advices regarding which type of CF memory card should I use for my Canon S1 IS.
Please note that I'll be using movie mode often !
I've seen on www.bhphotovideo.com 3 kinds of SandDisk :
Sandisk 512MB CompactFlash Card Price: $ 44.95
Sandisk 512MB Extreme CompactFlash Card Price : $ 59.95
Sandisk 512MB Ultra II CompactFlash Card Price : $ 57.95
Unfortunately I can't tell the difference in quality. I mean which one should fit me best ?

Ok. They're all good so get the cheapest. Video is recorded at 2mb/s which all those cards should be capable of.
Hmmm... someone just told me to go with the Ultra II, it will be faster.
I am really puzzled here coz I've found a great price for the Sandisk 512MB Compact Flash Card, Model SDCFB-512-A10 $35.50 at newegg.
On the other hand they offer Sandisk 512MB Ultra II Compact Flash Card, Model#: SDCFH-512-901 at $52.50 (only $17 more).
The question is is it worth spending 17 more $ on extra speed ? Or is that jus enough for movies ?

Faster is only needed if you want to store more than 2mb/s. Aside from the fact the S1 seems to have a buffer built in, your file sizes are unlikely to be large enough to merit a faster card. I'd say go with the slower card and save your money.
In a year or two you might buy a camera that has bigger files but by then, judging from current and past trends, the faster cards will be much cheaper than the difference you'd pay today.
