$999 is a ridiculous price point for a compact, but it looks oh-so-sweet. A large-sensor compact with a standard (prime!) lens, and foveon technology? Gotta want that, now, dont'cha?

Eh. f/4 sucks. The f/2.8 on my P&S isn't even fast enough most of the time. You can't argue that jacking up the ISO solves that problem because it maxes out at ISO800 and even my P&S is "good enough" at ISO800. So I already have usable ISO800 AND f/2.8 for about 1/8th the cost.

Yeah, f/4 ain't that great. I just love the idea of APS-C Foveon sensor in a compact.

th sigma has the dp1 sensor from the sd-14, not a compact camera sensor. so the f4 aperture is not much more comparable to f2.8 on a compact as it is comparing f2.8 to f4 on say a 40d. thats what is exciting about this. its not just another compact, it's a full size sensor in a more compact body.

the sigma is a fantastic concept but it fails to live up to its potential. it should probably also be noted here that the e420 with the pancake lens is a vastly better product and far closer to the nirvana of a small, pocketable dslr.

The Olympus dSLRs have a lot going for them. I might have gone Olympus rather than Canon had not the only Olympus available at the time been a broken E300.
