Beautiful image, great pose and exposure, the hand on the butt isn't nearly so intrusive this time :) but the vignetting just doesn't work for me. Then again, I'm just not a fan of vignetting.

Nice use of the textured background.
You seem to be getting some good gigs CDI

Hey thanks toriaj & JMW!
JMW, this was actually a young local couple on a small budget. They booked me for two hours, but I gave 'em 4 in the end, partly because we were running behind and I wanted to be sure to get the first dance, and partly because I wanted to futz around with the off-camera strobes without pressure or obligation.
They had his mom make the cake...but check this sucker out. It's her FIRST wedding cake ever!

Nice shot of the couple Don. I kinda agree on the vignette but think if you extend all the way around (i.e., top & bottom too) it might work.
Thazz quite a cake! Hope you took lots 'o pics of it to make Mom happy... ;)

Hah that's the only pic I took of the cake by itself but I got one of mom with the cake too. It's kind of a snapshot but she's all beaming proud & it's great. :D
I'll try the viggy the whole way around and see how that looks.

Love that shot!
so, do we get to see more?

Thanks Jamie. :)
I put a couple on my blog. I don't have much in the way of creativity. I was more concerned with giving them solid coverage in a short timeframe. We were going to stop at an abandoned motel between the ceremony and reception but had to nix it due to time.

Here's one that's not on my blog but I'm not sure if I like or not. I was again futzing with off-camera lighting, but I didn't have enough power to beat the high and left sun.

With regard to the vignette, try an edge burn more so than oval vignette. I think it works well for this kind of photo.

I actually do use an edge burn. I don't typically hand-burn though. I just over-cooked the first pic with the LR vignette stuff.

i like the pose a LOT. don't really like the wall, but what're you gonna do? can't please everyone.
i'd love to see some of your off camera flash shots.

Updated first pic with a more subtle burn.
Nick, there's not a lot to see, tbh. Couple good ones but a lot of it looks like the same crap I got with on-camera flash because one of my strobes didn't fire 90% of the time. It'd go on the test button but not on the shutter. Works consistently here at home. *shrug* When it did fire though, it was kinda cool. The dance photo on my blog is one of 'em where it did fire.
Here's one using just backlight from the good strobe:

i have a wedding next weekend. thinkin about trying some off camera stuff.
the reception's in a building with small wooden pillars everywhere though...so maybe not.
cdifoto

If the pillars are narrow enough...gator clip the flashes to 'em maybe?
I actually have enough flashes and stands to run 4 lights, but I don't have enough receivers. :D If I had more stands and more receivers, I could actually run 8 lights....since I have that many flashes. Baby steps....

Don, I think the vignette works well in the first shot. There's a lot of blank wall in the composition, and the vignette helps to draw the eye in towards the subject. For the same reason, I don't think it works as well for the group shot, which is a little too busy for the vignette IMO.
P.S. Could you ID those flashes?

Mostly just Vivitar 283s Adam. Cheap as chips on eBay. Add a Vari-Power Module to the front and you're in business. Everyone pays a premium for the 285s because they already have the Vari-Power built in. The most expensive unit there was $40 including shipping. I didn't waste time bidding on any of 'em.

I like the new version of that first shot more.
How do you find working with all those strobes? does it not get confusing and awkward?
cdifoto
07-14-2008, 09:52 AM
I've only been able to use two so far due to lack of receivers.
