Hi all,
Some of you may remember a while back, I was asking around for help in finding an intro photo class for the summer. Well, I found one, and am in my 3rd week, so I thought I'd post some of the pics that I have taken for that class. All were shot with the XTi, most with the 50mm/ 1.8. COMMENTS & CRITICISM welcome.

The first assignment was 36 images of the same thing--I chose a lemon tree & here are some of my favorite shots. I had to convert them into black & white for the class.

My 2nd assignment: Landscapes.

These were all taken in Mazatlan over the 4th of July (and im not sure if they all REALLY qualify as "landscapes", but the teach just said "no people", so I included everything without people). Again, all with the XTi, and mostly with the 50mm, but the "gyroscope" was with the 70-300IS, and the sailboat was with the kit.

I also did a really compelling photoshop edit to the beachchair image, but didnt save it. If I can recreate it, I'll post that as well.

(Is there a way to get that guy out of the picture? He's really messing up the symmetry)

The PS Clone Stamp is your friend...get to know it well...there are many online tutorials. I did it quick and dirty just to give you an example. With a little more care, it would virtually undetectable...

BTW, Good work so far....;)

Great shots so far! Have you gotten any feedback from the teacher yet?

Great shots, and what class are you taking? I've been thinking about a few myself?

Thanks guys!

JTL--I didn't see the difference in the picture you posted, maybe you just re-posted the original? I would love to see if you are able to take him out & make it look natural.

As far as my teach--I only have gotten feedback on one assignment so far--the 36 pics, and I had turned in the image above with the lemon in center frame. I got good a good grade on that one, but not much feedback. One caveat is that I am kind of making my own "digital" version of the class, which is actually purely a 35mm course (and includes the development process as well), so a lot of the comments & instruction are more geared towards the actual development process. I really wish I had been able to find a good digital photography course that would have included post-processing on photoshop rather than dark room development processes. (Most of the ones I came across started with "so, this is what a digital camera looks like...") Its interesting, definitely, but having to translate it to the photoshop realm is a bit difficult.

The course I am taking is in the evenings at El Camino Community College (I'm in LA). There were a few others in the LA area, but this was the most convenient/practical.

Moi? Au, contraire! Look again closely at my original post. I took the guy out on the beach in the beach chair! That is what was real distracting to me! The guy in the shadow just blended in...I didn't find him obtrusive at all...;). But, if you want the guy in the shadow gone...well, he's gone! :D

PhotoShop is a great tool. If you have it, use it. The same thing can be easily done in PaintShop Pro as well. :)

wow....i never even SAW the guy in the beachchair. That's a total "where's waldo" moment!!

That was amazing....i'm still learning photoshop & am still working the basics, like the channel mixer, etc. but the clone tool will definitely have to be my next tutorial!
