I just started work with my new a350 sony slr. I noticed that in photoshop 7 when I open a photo it indicates: 4592 width x 3056 height which I see in the manual. It also indicates: 63.778 inches width x 42.444 inches height.
The questions is the resolution which is 72 pixels and inch. Is that the only resolution you can get out of the camera?

Would like any explanations and procedures I can get.

thanks Dave Bridge (d1bridge@cox.net)

The dpi isn't set in the camera, it is set when printing. It means nothing until you print.

you say that dpi is not set in the camera, but in the photo processing software. But, if a novice took a photo directly from a camera producing 72 ppi at his local drugstore. Does the drug store photo equipment take it up from the 72 ppi? Just wondering.

Its dots per inch - if you print an 8x10 inch photo and it needs 300 dots per inch to fill it, then that's what it does. If it only needs 72dpi, then so be it. Obviously a higher resolution file will get you a higher DPI as more pixels are packed into the same space.
