Hmmm....I have a 17-50 f/2.8...add to that a 50-150 f/2.8...how perfect is that?
I'd forget about getting an 85mm 1.8 at that point.

*Sigh* I want that lens. But I just got the 55-200mm and I'm sure it was much cheaper than the other one will be.

yeah the d700 will prob be around $3k, body only.
Jeez i heard that the D700 was the first part in Nikons push as the price leader and that it was going to retail in the US for $1150 including a lens.

Yeah, funny stuff! :\ ... ;-)
I just hope the "supposed" SB-900 doesn't make me wish I hadn't "just" purchased a SB-800.

Are you saying that the SB-900 will not be included in the $1150 bundle?

In a perfect world... It would be (along with the B-grip) :)

If you follow the links (go to nikonrumours.com > Busted Rumours), you will see the the 50-150/2.8 rumour is not true. It is the Sigma 50-150/2.8 APO HSM. The new lenses will be the 45/2.8D PC-E and 85/2.8 PC-E Micro as in the Nikon brochure.
As for the D700, it will be at least $3,000 from half a dozen sources, and KR himself postulates $3,300, so it's gotta be true ;)
Nikon, why are you doing this to us? I had sworn off full-frame because I don't like big cameras. The lenses will still need to be bigger to get to the same focal length, but the temptation of clean 6400 ISO images with 25,600 available in "emergencies" and dynamic range close to the S5 Pro, the allure may be too much.
As an aside, I was just at a friend's wedding where the main pro was using a D300. I was stalking him for a while to make sure it wasn't a more "professional" body, but it was a D300 with the grip. Good to know that it can handle the duty for a pro wedding photog. The other guys were using a 5D for sure and I think what sounds like a 1D/III from the speed of the machine-gun like bursts ;) Surprisingly, I wasn't impressed with the 5D images, though, as I used some of his images for the slide show (I created the slide show for the wedding). Must be his post-processing.
Thankfully, the pros weren't that annoyed with me when I was shooting with my S5 Pro. 5-6 years ago, i was given the dagger look by the wedding photographer, who said to me "do you mind??!?" with obvious scorn when I was shooting in his vicinity.
Just a few quick comments about the S5 Pro:
The auto DR and auto WB are fantastic. With a 1/2 CTO gel on my flash to match the reception lighting and auto WB on the camera, I could have sworn the colour balance was darn near perfect. The JPEGs were great, although if I needed even more DR, I could recover at least 2 more stops from the RAW file in ACR. There are threads on the DPR Fuji forum where some guy shows us how he gets 4 stops highlight recovery.
Biggest drawback of the S5 Pro I found at this wedding was the AF system. Unlike the previous wedding where I used the S5 Pro, the ceremony and reception halls were generally darker, and the S5 Pro struggled to nail the focus. I bet the D300 would have been fantastic and the 5D would have struggled just as much as the S5 Pro if not more.
and KR himself postulates $3,300, so it's gotta be true ;)
That's it. I'm starting to search the Internet for info so I can write my hands on review. :D

LOL... Yeah, most of the information in his reviews is a typing up of the spec sheet and gratuitous links to where you can get the products he's talking about at Adorama, Amazon, and Ritz Camera, sprinkled with a few sentences designed to bait you into reading "why your camera / lens does not matter" and how the D40 is all the camera anyone ever needs as he fires off shots from his D3.
Did I miss anything? ;)

If there is an SB-900 to come out, thats good. That means that SB-800 prices will go down. :) I'm looking forward to what the next D80 will be like. It should be good competition to the 40D/XSi.
My friend just bought herself a D80 w/18-55VR package and it was at a great price $869. I bought her the 55-200VR and its a nice little setup for $1050. I would bet that the new D90, or whatever it ends up being, will be priced equal to this just for the body alone. Which still isn't bad considering it will be much more in line with the 40D than the XSi (size, build quality, fps, etc...).
So buy your D80's now while they are still in stock and cheap.

I don't know, my 5D's do really well in some very dark wedding venues. I have yet to be in a situation where it won't focus...at least with the center point.
That's not to say that I am not REALLY jealous of my 3 friends that have D3's, and won't feel the same jealousy towards the D700 crowd. Nikon knows how to build bodies chock full of cool features that Canon makes you pay extra for.
Then, I'll look fondly at my 35 f1.4 and remember why I stuck with Canon after my brief dalliance with the N company!

Just wanted to say you have taken some stunning wedding photos! Lovely website too.
Canon do make the faster lenses which is a shame...dont know why Nikon dont do the same...

I'm sure it's still pretty good especially if you use a fast lens (thus giving the AF sensor more light to work with). I'm just going on what I've heard from 5D users who have said the AF was great when it was introduced, but that's a long time ago and Canon has made improvements since then.
I should also mention that I was using an 18-200/3.5-5.6 VR lens most of the time on the S5 Pro. At f/5.6 when zoomed, the AF sensor isn't getting much light to work with. Put a slow lens on the 5D and I have a feeling it would have struggled just as much.

Yes, it would be great if Nikon stepped it up and filled the lens holes in their lineup instead of pumping out more macros (or Micros, as it were) and PC-E lenses that most people don't really need. Fast wide-ish primes like the 35/1.4 and 24/1.4 are clearly missing, as are semi-pro f/4 lenses like the 70-200/4 L IS that is always calling my name. I seem to have this Pavlovian reflex where I immediately turn and stare at any compact white telephoto lens to see if it's the 70-200/4. ;)

Can he say "aperture" yet?
Doe he fully understand and can he explain the rule of thirds?
I just did a Flickr search.
There are already 6 Nikon D90 groups created. Unfortunately not one of them has an image in it. :(
