Compact and more optical zoom

Hello,

I am looking for a P&S compact camera for my friend.
Please find details below:

Budget - <225$

Size - Compact, he says A570IS is not comact :-)

Features - Standard, not very specific. But IS is good.

How many megapixels will suffice for you? - anything above 6

What optical zoom will you need? - More than 6x

How important is “image quality” to you? (Rate using a scale of 1-10) - 8

Do you care for manual controls? - not really

General Usage - for events, trips etc. User is not a professional. Using for personal needs.

Will you be making big prints of your photos or not? - Not big prints. But for some occasions, may be we can take regular prints.

Will you be shooting a lot of indoor photos or low light photos? - Not much.

Will you be shooting sports and/or action photos? - some.

Are there particular brands you like or hate? - Mostly prefer Canon, Nikon and Sony. But if its really worth, can look for others.

Are there particular models you already have in mind? - I suggested CanonSX100 but he said, its too bulky :-)

Do you need any of the following special features? - Image Stabilization.
