I was doing some adventure/outdoor photography today of some friends who doing some repelling and rock climbing.

I ended up almost smashing my $700 50-150 Sigma against a rock.

Then, at the edge of a cliff, MY STRAP BROKE! Well, I didn't break, but it came undone.

Luckily I caught it and it only brushed the ground, but I was very frustrated.

In one respect I'm lucky to be carrying a D50, but then again, this is no way to be treating my equipment.

I did get the shot however.

Look, if you have the strap adjusted to the way you want it ... staple the damn thing. Tack them loose ends down.

Two in each strap side. Still don't feel comfortable? What the hell, fire two more in, a little lower down.

You can easily remove the staples in case of a change, but they more than likely won't ... COME UNDONE.

Good tip Don, I'm going to do that.

A lot of people have said that strap has busted as many cameras as its saved getting caught on stuff and the like.

Ssil2000 convinced me to take out insurance on my camera gear as an extra to my home contents policy. It doesn't cost too much relative to the gear and covers it so I don't have to worry anymore:)

I checked with my home owners when I got the camera. I forgot what my deductible is, but I know it is high. I put all the receipts away in case I ever need them.
pheller, glad your camera and especially your lens is OK. That would have been too depressing to even think about.
