What is the return policy at amazon.com regarding cameras? I have bought quite a lot from them and never had a problem. I am looking to purchase a Canon 40D and I have never spent that much money there and I am a little afraid because of some of the problems, few percentage-wise, I know, that some have had with this camera and as well as others. I don't want to start a discussion about that. But I would like some re-assurance that I can send it back and get my money back if I am not satisfied even after having shot a few pictures with it. I know all of the packaging must be saved and everything that comes with it goes back and it has to be in new condition. Has anyone ever sent a camera back for refund or exchange within the thirty day time limit and had a problem? I have held the camera and have used the XSI so I know what I am ordering.
Thanks,
Logan

loganh3101 - I suspect their return policy is very good. Check their web site for details.
I'm posting because you said something about sending back after a few pictures. What is your definition of a few? Most members on here would take that as a couple hundred or so. A new DSLR digital from any company cannot be expected to perform till you figure out the basics of photography. This camera has a standard transmission, so can you shift the gears. It also has a automatic mode that will work, but not up to most posters expectations.
Many user details in the program that have to be set although the defaults are ususally good.
Enjoy your new camera !

Thanks Spook for your quick response. I expected to put a hundred pics on it, at least. I am a detective and our department purchased the XSI's a couple of months ago and it did take a while to learn it, and I'm still learning. I just didn't know if Amazon would understand that. I expect that the camera will be just fine but its not like being able to carry it back to Best Buy, the only store in town that carries them, if I get that one in a thousand with a bug. I have had trouble on one occasion taking something back to them (Best Buy) and getting the run-around. That's the reason I'm shopping out of town this time for a new personal camera. I am familiar with the basics of photography and appreciate that there is a learning curve. I was hoping someone who had actually had to return one to Amazon with a couple of hundred shots on it would chime in. Not that I don't appreciate your comments, I do.

With Amazon, you have to make sure you know who you are ordering from. A lot of times it is another seller who is selling through amazon. THen returns can get trickier. Just make sure it says it is sold by amazon.com and you should be able to return things no problem. Amazon is generally great to work with.

if I buy on amazon, that 's not from amazon, is that still alright?

Here's a screenshot of my shopping cart. (http://s162.photobucket.com/albums/t260/teamzoxracing/Misc/?action=view&current=cart.jpg)

Looks like you have one item from Vanns.com, one from Adorama and one from amazon. You'd have to check the policies of each store to be safe.

^^I realized the different stores...wasn't sure if any of you had bought from them before.

I've ordered everything from books and DVD's to lens from Amazon and zero problems. B&H is second to none. Excellent folks and no problems getting what you ordered or if you have any problems they'll work with you. I wouldn't hesitate with either. As mentioned, you don't always get what you ordered from Amazon but in some cases a third party. Check them out. I got a lens not long ago from Amazon but, it actually came from Ritz Camera-again, no problem with them either.
