Just picked up the Tamron 70-300 to replace my Quantary 70-300 that the AF stopped working.
Here are a few from my sons FDNY Football Game

Settings, Frank? It's really tough to determine a method of suggesting improvement without them.
Thanks

You might try speeding up the shot and going to a wider f/5.6, to shallow up the depth of field. In my evaluation of the shot, I would try to isolate more on the subject.
You could do this post process, with that technique I suggested.

Thank goodness someone removed that unsightly recycling collection can.

Frank, I thought you bought a 70-300mm f/4-5.6, not a 70-200mm f/2.8!
The shot look like what I would expect from the lens. 1/400-500 often is the speed to do the fast-paced sports with, to avoid "limb blur."
Or, how about more "impact" to your shot with the very effective and mind-blowing "stutter-hit?" Try that with an instamatic! :D

I tell ya, Frank ... that's some kind of camera you have there.

I did buy the Tamron 70-300. I like all the editing you did. I didn't PS them I just cropped them. That shot shuttering hit is what won us the game that was there quarterback and he did not return after that hit. I will hit the shore today after work and see what I can shoot.
Thanks

Frank,
I realize that your shots were to demonstrate the output of the new lens and it looks like it did pretty well. I was able to modify the very clear shots you took and produce something with a little more variable in the aperture appearance. Maybe even more bokeh than a real f/2.8 could deliver. You'd have to have one to see the difference in each situation.
It's all in fun ...
Enjoy the shoot ... for shore! :D
