Hi!

I've been searching for a good and compact (non-dslr) camera for several weeks, but finally I'm not able to decide:rolleyes:
Perhaps you can help me. The following cameras are actually my favorites:
- Panasonic Lumix TZ5
- Panasonic Lumic FX35 or FX500
- Canon Powershot SD790 IS Digital
- Fuji Finepix F100fd

I'm looking for a camera which really makes good quality photos and which let me set things like shutter speed and so on manually if possible. I plan to take photos of nature and when I take a photo of a river I want to see the water flowing (I hope that you understand what I mean..).
If you know other good cameras (compact and modern ones only) please let me know!

Greetings

Further information (features which the camera should have):
- wide angle
- minimum 7 MP, maximum 12 (better 10)
- metal body
- good quality movies (VGA or HD)
- budget doesn't matter at the moment

Of the models you've mentioned, only the FX500 and F100fd have manual controls (shutter speed and aperture). The others are pure P&S. Very few small cameras have full manual controls.

If you want the 10x zoom of the TZ5 but want manual controls, look at the Canon SX100 and the Sony H3 but neither goes as wide as the TZ5. I'd also look at the Nikon P50, and the Panasonic LX2.

Thx for your hints.
"Very few small cameras have full manual controls."
Would be great if you could mention some models.. I couldn't really find compact cameras with manual control.

Unfortenatly the other cameras (except the Panasonic LX2) are really huge in my view.. so with "compact" I meant something around 1 inch (about pocket-size) ;)

You can search on "Manual Exposure" on the Reviews and Info page. You can also search on "wide angle" and those two criteria will limit your choices quickly.

wow, this page is just genious! I didn't know of the sort function on this page before.

But you said that the F100fd has full manual control.. where do you have this information from? This camera is not listed under "manual exposure"..

Yup, the "filter" page here at DCresource is about the only one I use any more. Fast and accurate.

The Fuji F100fd is the newer replacement for their F50fd model. That F50fd did feature manual control. It was only natural to assume the replacement would have this too, but Fuji fans were disappointed there.

As David has pointed out, high IQ plus manual control plus slimline case plus wide angle is going to be a tough combo to meet. Better start praying that reviews for the FX500 show it delivers on IQ.

Oops, you're correct. I got confused with the Fuji S100fs, sorry about that.

Hey, welcome to the club! Fuji has so darned many "100" models now that I am constantly getting them confused. Suppose they will drum me out of the club?
