D40 and legacy / film Nikkor lenses ??

Greetings -
Am looking to buy a Digital SLR.
I've got some older Nikkor single focal length lenses (used with my old Nikon FE), as well as some bigger (i.e. - heavy) Auto-Focus zooms on my N90.

As a rule, will the older lenses work with a D40?
Any caveats / gotcha's?

- RichardThey will not auto focus on the D40. Do yourself a favor and get a D300 for your Galapagos trip...or, at the very least, a D80...

highl yunlikely they will AF on the d40. they will AF on the d80 though. what lens' are they out of interest ?
