PhotoRescue does a pretty good job. It is not freeware, but you can download a trial version to see if it will actually recover your photos. If it sees your photos, you will have to purchase it($29) to actually make the recovery.

Count me in as another satisfied Photorescue user. It's saved my bacon several times now.

There are free programs like PC Inspector and Restoration that should work fine on flash cards as well.

You can try this http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital_image_recovery.htm it shows compatible with the 300D without a card reader. I have used it often.

Hhmmm...I have a Sony F717. I just went in again. I had the camera turned on before I ran the program. It showed up in the list as Sony Memorystick. Also, I have a card reader. When the program first started, it showed 3 devices with numbers. 2 of them had 0 beside them (nothing in the cardreader) and the other had 463MB beside it. I assume the 463MB was the card size (it is a 512MB). When I shut the camera off, it disappeared off the list.
Good Luck,
Steve

I’ve used ImageRecall 3 (http://www.deprice.com/imagerecall.htm) for two years and it always recovered images. It’s very reasonably priced, too. Plus you get to test it free.
