I've gone and done it.

After desperately trying to choose between the Canon 450D and the Sony Alpha 350 I've been and bought the Canon.

It was a tougher decision than I thought it would be. Pictures out of the cameras were almost identical - In the end I picked them both up and just didn't like the feel of the Sony (sorry Don!). Plus with the kit lens being a 58mm diameter all my filters from my S3 will fit just fine too.

The battery is on charge...

I can't wait to get playing :D

You'll love it.

But don't spend too much time on these forums or before you know it you'll start loosing sleep over which lenses to get and soon after that you'll be broke! Ignorance is bliss. :D

Whatever camera you get these days, they will all take great photos. It's not likethe old days of digital when the camera dictated the photo quality. Now the onus is more on the photographer to compose well and take a good photo.

LOL Too late for me too!!!

What I am now finding out is just what a rip off living in Britain is...

I want to use my XSi for taking some sports photos, mostly field hockey. So I'm looking for a zoom/telephoto.

I really like the look of ;

EF 70-200mm f/4 L USM
EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM

These are priced at $579 and $549 respectively at B&H.

This is where the rip off comes in - cheapest I can find them, internet mail order, in the UK is £449 and £355 respectively (that's approx $893 and $692 respectively).

I usually use faster than 1/500s shutter speeds so is IS really worth it?
But, would 200mm (320mm equiv.) be long enough to see the other side/other end of a field hockey pitch (55mx95m)?

Help!!

70-200/4 + 1.4x II might be the best compromise.

Thanks,

I'm desperately trying to find a shop locally that has them both. I can then take my 450D along and try them both.

Almost an impossible task though...

You might find Jessops might have both. They're pretty useless but they might. Other than that, try to find a professional camera shop.

Thanks. I had a look they are even more rubbish than that -didn't have either!

Has anyone ever used the London Camera Exchnge? We have one in Chesterfield, not too far away...

What are they like for taking your camera in and firing off some test shots?
