what are peoples thoughts on non-oem batteries? the LP-E5 for the XSi is ridiculously expensive. You can get third party batteries for 1/10th the price. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

i bought one off http://duracelldirect.com/ for my 30d and so far so good. haven't used it on it's own since i have the battery grip, but i swear between that one and the original i haven't recharged them in a month and i'm still showing full battery.
My 3rd party batteries are all by Impact and bought via B&H.+

I have a generic eBay battery for my Xt, and have used it with no prob for going on three years. This is one area where brand seems not to matter.

I bought two off eBay for $30. 1250mAh each
These are the exact same ones I bought and the same seller:

It looks like the price went down too  It's now less than $30 for two. It just took them around two weeks to arrive since it's originating from Hong Kong.
I used them just this past weekend. No problems.

I have two from Sterling for my XTi. They were much cheaper and last longer than the Canon battery that came with the camera. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

Other than the Canon batteries that came with the cameras all my aftermarket batteries are from http://sterlingtek.com/ . I've used them for weddings, events, and general purpose shooting and have no complaints whatsoever about them.
Having said all that, I don't see the LP-E5 listed on SterlingTek's site yet..

don't know anything about them either though, but have heard they're good.

They're OK. I've ordered from them and had what I ordered.

I bought 2 Sterling Trek's a couple of months back.I think they're like $19 each.
I have shot 2 11 hour photo shoots.and a 8 hour fitness event with absolutely no problems.
Haven't used the canon's since.
Highly recommend them.

SterlingTeks in my 10D, eBay unknown-names in my F40, 2 OEMs and one Black Diamond (supposedly..but doesn't have any name label) in my 1D II.
pandazoo has to be a scam. It's registered as a non-trading individual website but clearly is a trading website.

I bought whatever off ebay for both my old Sony A300 and for the Canon 40D (I think I even got one for the Rebel XS). I don't pay any attention to which one I am using for the 40D, and haven't had any trouble.
I typically worry a bit about using 3rd party Lithium Ion batteries (I wouldn't use one in my MacBook, which retails for less than the 40D) but for some reason I have felt confident enough to use them in my cameras, and so far (*knock on wood*), so good.
