Hey guys just bought myself a Cannon S5 is camera, and its awesome! Anyways, I shot a video earlier today around 1 minute and a half long, and tried to upload it to youtube. It is a .avi, and is 150mb. So I figured I'd need to compress it to suit youtubes uploading parameters. This is what turned out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqEEW-BBHdc How come the video is so bad? I know that youtube videos usualy arent the best quality, but a lot of the other S5 test videos seem to have better quality. Can someone suggest what I should do to make it better or what you use to compress your videos? Thanks

Youtube has its own compression program. You can upload the file raw if you wish, but it may take a while depending on the speed of your connection. It will be converted by their server.

What you are seeing is a video compressed three times - once in the camera, once on your system, than again by Youtube.

I run video from my S3 through Windows Movie Maker which reduces the size by a factor of 10 without appreciable loss of quality. You can then upload to YouTube and get good results. There are many other ways to reduce the size of the output from the S3/S5, but this was with software I already had.

I did a short video - shot it in 320x240 mode and uploaded to youtube. The low quality of mine is due to shooting in low light and in low quality mode. Compare this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QF3gw1rEyok with this - shot in VGA high-quality mode http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsTEqICCJlk or this which was made from stills and combined using Windows Movie Maker... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5mAlmuJxdkQ
