Not shown is the Dell D820 laptop and its AC adapter and the CD-Rs I sometimes carry with me to burn backups are also missing.

A packing miracle!
Definitely 12-lbs of **** in a 10-lb. sack.
I tell, buddy, when I get ready to move ... I'm giving you a call. ;)

Hah more like 45-50 lbs.

I'm glad it's your back ... mine went a few years ago ... now, I'm on a handtruck!

Yeah I'd never hike with it...I just use it as a point a to b type bag to work out of. That black blob on the left under the grey card is my Newswear Chestvest that holds what I need for a given shoot/session/task.

I'm humbled Don... I don't think I have that much crap in my car, let alone my bag!
Where did you get those little battery cases? I've been using elastics...

Hahah thanks Flip & Gary, I think. :P
I used to use little plastic baggies for my AAs but when I ordered a couple 123A batteries for my light meter from thomas-distributing.com, I added those cases. The more cases I bought, the bigger the shipping discount. Buying 16 of 'em gave me free shipping on the total order.

Like CDI, mine came with the batteries I ordered from thomas-distributing.com. ($0.99 each) from here: http://www.thomas-distributing.com/batteryholder-index.htm
When I saw the title I wondered if somebody had filled their bag with crap and taken a photo of the steaming mass.
Now I realise that it referred to the camera gear. Perhaps we should club together to buy the OP some decent kit?

Sure thing if you guys wanna get together and replace the Sunpak 383 and Vivitar 5600 with two 580EX IIs that'd be great!
The 1D II is fine but if you wanna make the 10D a 1D III that'd be nice of ya.
The 70-200 f/2.8L IS and 24-70L are great, but if you wanna get me something like an 85L to fill in the gaps I'd take it.
And I wouldn't mind if the eBay triggers were PocketWizards.
Not sure how you'd upgrade the rest...cables are cables and chargers are chargers. :p

tim11 - that picture is crazy!
i just have a lowepro slingshot - can carry up to 3/4 lenses as long as it's not longer than 75mm.
i like it.. sometimes i just bring along a backpack if i can't fit everything inside.
i don't have a crazy set of equipment like most of you guys.. but eventually!
who carries a tripod with their bag? i kno lowepro makes some that allow it

Jcanon701,
That shot isn't mine. It's CDIfoto's. Personally, I don't have that much inventory. I only have 1 DSLR with 2 batteries, 2 lenses, a flash, a cheap tripod with a few sets of rechargeable batteries. I do have a few compact PnS but I don't carry everything. I have a few different carry bags to suit the shooting environments depending on whether I have to travel light or otherwise.

My bag has recently been lightened, for what it's worth. The Sunpak 383 fried on me so I sold the TR-Pak IIa that paired with it. Actually broke even on that move. Got as much for it on eBay as I paid new and that took about 3.5lbs out of my bag. :D
Currently in the process of removing the large external drive and replacing it with a laptop external to shed some more weight. Reconfigured it too. I could fit another mid sized lens + body in there.

I do. The entire point of a laptop is portability. Might as well not have one if you never take it with you.

Mate.... have you ever heard of travelling light? Do you carry the whole bag, complete with a laptop, everytime you go shooting regardless of what you will be shooting?
Now that gives fresh meaning to the title of this thread. :D

Yes I travel light sometimes. Usually just with the P&S. I'm either a photographer or a normal person. I don't do this in-between stuff of shoulder bag and a single dSLR.

Disagree. A normal person does photos the best they can!!!A pic taker does everything under cover.

Nope. Normal people could care less about technical perfection in their photos and prefer to capture memories. People who carry dSLR kits in a Slingshot every where they go as a non-professional are photo geeks. It's nice to chicken wing it every now and then.

Is that a lowepro bag?
I got a flipside 300- great design, doesn't hold as much as that (:s) but it has rear access- rotate it round on the belt strap and you have all your stuff attatched to you. Packs a DSLR with 300 mil lens, spare lens, filters, flashes, a tripod, cables, SD chips, water bottle etc.

Boy that would suck to leave in a taxi! Don't do what that guy with the Stradivarius did! ;) How much in retail value is the whole bag with its contents?
I just upgraded from a LowePro EX 160 to a LowePro Nova AW3 and now I'm running out room in that.

I've got a Lowepro bag which, if I'm going out specifically to photograph, comes loaded with a laptop and charger, camera cable, card reader, 40D and lens, FZ50, cleaning gear, minipod, monopod, tripod (I like my support! ;)), memory cards galore, flashgun, and hopefully soon an extra lens or two.
If I'm going out and there might be some good photo opportunities, I take a Lowepro beltpack with the 40D and lens, cleaning gear, and flash, and maybe the monopod. If I'm just popping out and need a light camera load, I take the 40D and lens in a small bag, that's about it. So it all depends. ;) I vary from uber-light load through to complete pack horse/one man band depending on the situation.

It's a generic eBay bag. It's not fancy but it didn't cost much.

It's not worth nearly as much as that Stradi. :)

I have a little Samsonite video bag from Wal-Mart that's good for going light with more than just the P&S but I pretty much never use it. I also have a Tamrac backpack that doesn't hold enough to be worthwhile.
I've gone dSLR light with just one lens, the body, and a flash but when I do that I don't even need a bag. I slip a battery & some memory in my pocket and sling the camera over my shoulder.

cdifoto! Whoa!!!! You lug that around with you? If you go to the park you take all that with you??? Or just on a photo shoot?
I crammed my stuff into the smallest back pack I could get it into. It doesn't all fit, but so be it.
So you guys who are lugging around 40 lbs of camera equipment, you help your wife with lugging around the kids???? Gosh, my 2 year old only weighs 23 lbs. I can't imagine carrying double her weight. (I often toss my camera bag into my stroller basket.)

As said before, it's an A to B bag. It would be insane to carry it around casually.
I don't have a wife or kids but I do have a nephew. I separate family from photography when necessary. That's when the P&S or just the body + lens + flash comes in. No bag.
Like multiple layers in the cold, I like multiple bags all within reach.
I was just unloading the car from yesterday's wedding and took a snapshot.
2 triangular bags, one holds camera with mounted and ready tele, the other OK for shorter lens (like 24-105L). The system has straps on each side that holds add-on bags that velcro in. I prefer the Think-Tank side bags for it's dual pull-cord and velcro closing mechanism - also suitable for attaching to the belt (shorter version shown here). Also shown here is a flash bag just right for 580EX with diffuser attached.
All the little stuff goes into a fanny pack. Batteries, cleaning kit, expo disc, light meter, 60mm macro, misc little items (Shout, shoe shine, money, blower, sunglasses, etc), and CF card wallet.
The extras go in my Pelican case in the trunk.
During the wedding; the bags are empty becaues both bodies are on my neck; but occassionally I'll take one off and I don't like leaving it around. This way; all my gear stays on my person or locked in the car.
The empty bag always contains a water bottle.
Only other thing I "carry" is a common laborer's back brace under the shirt. Amazing how "physical" this sissy sport can be, hua?

For event photography that spans daylight and nighttime - and backups might be needed at a moment's notice I still don't like going beyond 4 lenses and 2 bodies w/ flashes, with some extras in the car (safey protected in a Pelican case against trunk heat) - but 1 body+lens won't cut it.
For family outings; I agree. Pick 1 lens, the smallest bag it fits into, and *maybe* a flash (in the side bag). The other lens bag usually has a water bottle if it's an all-day thing (like Disneyland).
I like having a quality well-padded bag that'll zip and flap shut to protect from the elements. A small front pocket is nice for cleaning cloth/juice, CF cards, and battery. If I care about the quality and it's warranted; I'll bring a flash even though it's just family stuff.
